The eye area of our face is very sensitive; therefore, it is essential for ingredients of eye make-up to be safe, pure, non-toxic and non-irritant. As well as raw materials used in production of eye make-up, there are many oils, fats and waxes with pigments or other dyes added to ensure its colour properties.
Eyebrow pencils are usually used to darken the eyebrows, correct the shape, or fill in sparse areas. WUNDERBROW works differently by clinging to eyebrow hairs and adding the colour and definition, and is applied with a spooled brush for blending and shaping. Therefore, it is much easier to use and looks very natural.
So let’s consider the science behind eyebrow pencils. In fact, their chemistry is very similar to eyeliners, consisting of a wax / hardened oil base with some additives to create the colour.
The main distinguishing feature of WUNDERBROW is its ability to create natural looking eyebrows that would last for days. This became possible due to the Permafix gel components found in this product. A copolymer complex (ethylene / propylene / styrene) creates a gel-like consistency stabilising the formula, which dries out with time and holds like wax. As a result, hair-like fibres coloured with pigments can be locked into the gel securely creating a flexible matrix, thus, ensuring the long-lasting effect and the natural look of eyebrows.
Isododecane serves as an emollient in WUNDERBROW and can spread easily creating an even coverage of your brows. Emollients can be defined as “supple, waxlike, lubricating, thickening agents that prevent water loss and have a softening and soothing effect on the skin”. Hence, this ensures the long-lasting effect of the final formula.
In addition, isohexadecane creates a very creamy and thick formula leaving a silky and light emollient feeling on the skin and can also improve the spreadability of WUNDERBROW.
Propylene carbonate is used to dissolve the substances e.g. dye in Permafix gel in order to deliver the desired colour of the product.
Finally, vitamin E, presented in the form of tocopheryl acetate, acts as a natural skin-conditioning agent and antioxidant. It is formed by combining the ester of acetic acid and Tocopherol (vitamin E). It can also provide UV protection and anti-ageing benefits to the eyebrows.
